Air conditioning of hotel rooms is applied with fan coil units, connected to geothermal water to water heat pumps in combination with open/closed loop geothermal system. Fan coil units are considered to be an efficient solution because they can provide either heating or cooling loads, and they have simple and silent operation. They have also temperature control, air speed control and active or inactive operation (On/Off). As a result, the air conditioning of each room is independent. Fan coil units are offered in various types depending on the design requirements of each room: they can be put in floating screed on the roof or on the floor; and also they can be concealed or obvious units. They are controlled by incorporated thermostat or by a built-in thermostat. The distribution loop of fan coil units is connected with the geothermal water to water heat pumps in the engine room. Geothermal systems can also distribute with domestic hot water and swimming pool heating. Domestic hot water production and swimming-pool heating are succeeded by autonomous geothermal water to water heat pumps installed at the engine room, which operate independently from the air conditioning system of the building. This system can be combined with open or closed loop. The appropriate system for each case depends on the availability of the open ground in the exterior of the building and the availability of underground water. If the hotel is built in a coastal area, the exploitation of brackish water trough an open circuit is an efficient solution. This can be applied either with an open loop with an extra closed circuit, or with an open loop with Nickel of Copper heat exchangers, in order to avoid accretions and erosion. The installation and operation of this type of system is highly efficient due to exploitation of the abundant underground water that completely covers the energy requirements of the unit with low consumption of electrical energy. |
